A client who is a fan of the US politician Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez wanted an interracial gangbang image featuring her. I wanted to use his commission to highlight the process of digital painting. As we had several prospective clients ghost us after seeing the first sketch, perhaps this’ll help.

The sketches of digital painters look like hell. Seeing these crusty lines on a plain grey backdrop, you’d think we’re hustling you, but then…
Very quickly, things start to take shape. The lines don’t matter, painters work with shapes. A professional digital painter doesn’t need many visual cues.
You see that shit? The linework is still abysmal, but the lighting and shading are spot on in the more finished areas. Notice the painter removed the lines in the background. He doesn’t need them.
The puzzle is coming together. Her face and hair and tits look defined, sweet and fuckable. Shapes and lights, digital paintings are all shapes and lights.
And here’s the finished artwork again. The client approved this, but we could still work on it, add more layers and details. As our budgets are limited, we cut a balance between efficiency and quality. I think we did alright, no?
